Plan a Peace Day Event – Kids

International Day of Peace is about creating a culture of peace for future generations, and there is no better place to start than with children and youth. There are numerous examples of events and activities that are suited for children of different ages. By asking “What is Peace?” parents and teachers can get children thinking and talking about their own thoughts of war and peace.

Examples of Peace Day events:

  • Small children can draw pictures of themselves, saying what makes them feel peaceful
  • Small children: talk about how to act peacefully towards each other
  • Small children: do a puppet show about peace
  • Include Conflict Resolution in the curriculum for the day or week around September 21
  • Ask students to express “What is Peace?” by drawing or writing, followed by a discussion
  • Drawing Competition on the theme of peace or Peace Day
  • Submit your artwork to the annual Peace Pals International Arts Exhibition and Awards (age 5-19 years) (www.wppspeacepals.org)
  • Do a role play on peace
  • Write peace statements on pieces of paper and turn them into objects of art
  • Create peace posters
  • Make origami peace doves, write notes about peace on them and display
  • Create a giant Peace Dove, display in a public space (www.rootsandshoots.org/campaigns/dove)
  • Build a peace wall with statements/art about peace
  • Make “Pinwheels for Peace” (www.pinwheelsforpeace.com)
  • Plant a rock for peace (www.plantingrocksforpeace.org)
