Plan a Peace Day Event – Spiritual

Many spiritual traditions are deeply involved in peacebuilding work and already observe International Day of Peace in their community. By focusing the service of the day on peace, or encouraging members to observe Peace Day, spiritual organizations can help spread the message. Individuals can observe the day by meditating on peace, praying for peace or participating in the minute of silence for peace at noon on September 21. Peace Day is also a good opportunity to reach out to other spiritual traditions and come together for a day of interfaith discussion and cooperation.

Examples of Peace Day events:

  • Do a meditation for peace
  • Engage in a minute of silence at noon on September 21
  • Organize an International Day of Peace Vigil (www.idpvigil.com)
  • Organize and interfaith service/gathering at your place of worship
  • Prayers for peace (all faiths)
  • Organize a "Choir for Peace" concert
  • Use universal invocations/prayers, such as The Great Invocation – a mantram for the new age and for all humanity, and "May Peace Prevail On Earth"
  • Plant a rock for peace (www.plantingrocksforpeace.org)
